Atlas Raiding

Breaking into buildings, ships and vehicles, whether to steal property or cause destruction, should only be done to drive story and create mysteries for people to try to solve. Raiding should never be done out of greed, to harass players, or due to external grudges. This is a roleplay server and if it does not lead to additional roleplay, then it is not an acceptable raid.

1. Theft & Property Damage

  • Theft or Stealing – Taking any property that doesn’t personally belong to you without prior permission.
  • Burglary – Entering property without permission or causing major damage (lockpicking), in order to commit a crime.
  • Robbery – Taking property that doesn’t belong to you, from another person, by use of threat or force on land.
  • Piracy – Taking property that doesn’t belong to you, from another person, by use of threat or force on sea.
  • Raid – Causing major damage to a structure or vessel in order to commit a crime, usually under stealth.
  • Assault – Causing major damage to a structure or vessel in order to commit a crime, without the use of stealth.
  • War – A major ending event meant to cause extreme or final destruction to a roleplay arch.

2. Motive & Requirements

Players are allowed to attempt a burglary if:

  • The character is roleplaying a thief (and has the lockpicking skills).
  • There is a valid RP reason to burglarize another character or group (or)
  • You have an OOC agreement with the owner to push storyline.

Players may only attempt a raid if there have been multiple instances of serious aggression between the two companies.

3. Theft Limitations

You may only attempt to steal as much as you can naturally carry on your character in “one trip” from the victim’s property to your vehicle or means of escape. You may not return to take additional items. Remember: Theft and Raids are for roleplay, not greed. Respect your fellow community.

Due to their weight, players may only steal up to 5 “paper items” total. This limit doubles if you are stealing from the Royal Navy. Paper items include:

  • Player Notes
  • Player Letters
  • Journal Items
  • Skill Tomes
  • Treasure maps
  • Crafting blueprints

Due to their weight, players may only steal up to 5 cargo crates total. This limit doubles if you are stealing from the Royal Navy.

You may not interact with offline player bodies or “sleepers” as they would likely awake if structures are broken into, their pockets are accessed, or their clothing is removed in reality. You may not remove loot from their bodies and you may not take their offline form hostage unless you have an OOC agreement with the individual.

You may not attempt to steal, knock out, or harm passive tames or NPCs. Passive tames are not allowed to be touched.

Logging out in order to avoid consequence or hide the stolen loot on sleeping bodies is considered powergaming. You must either dock at a settlement or cross a minimum of 2 full grid lengths (and shimmers) before considering logging off of the server after a theft or raid event.

4. Clues & Evidence

If any structure was purposefully destroyed, a claim was contested, or something is stolen, you must stop to leave “evidence” in the form of a note or sign for the owner to find.  Lockpicking will automatically leave additionally clues.

Evidence must not be hidden and is required to be placed in the most “visible” or “likely to be found” location.

  • Notes must be placed within the structure’s mailbox or a nearby “salvage container”.
  • Sign must be placed near the destruction (as close and visible as possible despite placement restrictions).

The note or sign must include information that will provide an actual RP trail for the victim to follow. This information or evidence can be:

  • Signed with your actual character name.
  • A well known symbol or “calling card”.
  • A simple riddle or puzzle that would lead to you.
  • “Clues” that can logically point directly back to your character.
  •

Insufficient evidence can result in suspension.

You may never provide false information in your evidence. All evidence must be factual or clearly able to be debunked with the additional clues left behind.

  • Never create situations that would be impossible for the average player to solve.
  • Never sign someone elses’ character name as the perpetrator (unless you have OOC permission to do so for storyline).

If you were witnessed by a third party or caught in the middle of a crime, you do not need to leave a note, but other players are automatically allowed to engage in PvP with you.

  • The witness must be completely unaffiliated with your raiding group and have no prior knowledge of the raid.
  • This witness must acknowledge your presence and engage with you, even if to shout for you to stop, in order for this to be valid.

5. Structure Griefing

Griefing is unacceptable on DarksideRP.

Never cause excessive and unnecessary damage to player property unless if was agreed upon out-of-character or it takes place during an approved siege or war event. Only destroy and steal what is necessary.

Never drop or passively leave a player’s items on the ground to despawn. If you destroy containers and do not need the contents, you must put the loot into nearby open containers. (Likewise, every player should always leave at least one open and empty container in case of raiding events.)

Repeatedly raiding the same character or location because they are vulnerable in some fashion, without substantial RP, is considered griefing and is subject to disciplinary action.

DarksideRP features a custom key system and at times, new players are unaware and may forget to key their doors before logging out. We considered keying a stranger’s un-keyed door through the game UI to be an abuse of game mechanics.  This is unrealistic in a roleplay setting. The only re-keying that may be done is through the locksmith ability.

Any use of exploitive measures to re-key a stranger’s door may result in a permanent community ban.

Never maliciously kite wild animals, NPCs, alpha creatures, or bosses into players or player property in order to cause intentional death or destruction. Additionally, if you spawn creatures through the use of treasure maps near other players or their property, you must remain to eradicate them.

6. NLR During Burglary & Raiding

If your character is killed during a burglary or raid on an player base, NLR takes affect regardless of whether an enemy player was present or not. Raiding is considered active PvP and, even if you are killed by an NPC or turret, you should not return to your body. For more in depth information, please visit our New Life Rule section.

  • You may not repeatedly “corpse run” in order to perform a successful raid.
  • If all players participating in the raid are on NLR cooldown, then the raid is over.
